STEADY VIBRVNCY FW16

STEADY MAKES  FW'16 DEBUT

STEADY, a young brand out of Queens, New York, debut their Fall/Winter 2016 line with a lookbook unexpectedly set in Tokyo, Japan. With brand's founders based in New York, their collective aesthetics and attitudes reflect that of their origins, but with their 6th collection, they've crossed the Pacific and drew influences from Japanese culture and sensibilities.

"Set in Tokyo, our 2016 Fall/Winter lookbook dives into the collection's concept by contrasting the familiar New York attitude with retrained Japanese sensibilities, in order to create an uncanny feeling of not being able to connect wholly.  These same attitudes and sensibilities are subtly reflected in the garments, graphics and color palettes." - STEADY

PUMA RHIANNA VIBRVNCY

RIE HATA X PUMA

This photo series was inspired by the striking looks from the recently released FENTY F/W 2016 collection from Rihanna and Puma. Reflective of Rihanna’s badass presence, the monochrome pieces are unapologetically bold, and draw on a unique mix of throwback 90’s and Japanese aesthetics, as well as Puma’s signature sportswear themes.

Looking through the collection, I envisioned a modern day kunouichi in the neon-lit night streets of Tokyo. We were fortunate enough to collaborate with the immensely talented and equally stylish Rie Hata - internationally known dancer and choreographer to bring this project to life. After a styling session at the FENTY pop-up shop on Melrose, we picked up a full outfit, from a mesh do-rag/skullcap to a set of sharp sneaker heels.

A mask from KIN Aesthetik provided a perfect finish to the look. The oversized kimono piece in particular enabled us to capture some interesting shapes through movement, and the crossed diamond design in the leggings and cami bra were reflected in the traditional ito wrap on Japanese swords. Rie channeled her inner ninja spirit and crushed the look. Check out the shots in the gallery above, and a quick behind the scenes video below.

KITH X NIKE

Say what you will about the collaboration between the cultural behemoth that is Nike and a street wear staple that is Kith , their popup shop located at the Kith store in Manhattan is definitely an experience.

Upon entering you are immediately taken by the overwhelming use of concrete and Nike logos as the main sculpture at the store front which is made up of stacks of concrete Nike shoeboxes holding up a curated visual history of Nike sneakers.  Behind that exhibit is a large wall with a concrete nike shoe box facade displaying current sneakers for sale.

In the back of the store is the Kith signature cereal bar with a few bonus nike custom cereal mixes for the occasion. Also, there is  a custom printer for the co branded t shirt featuring the classic swoosh logo along with the Kith name.

Whether or not the collaboration is worth the hype is questionable, but its definitely worth the trip to see for yourself if you happen to be in the New York area.
